A new dispute-resolution option
Alberta created the Condominium Dispute Resolution Tribunal to provide a more specialized alternative to the traditional court process for disputes within its jurisdiction. The tribunal commenced operations on April 1, 2026.
How it is funded
According to the Alberta government, condominium corporations must pay a tribunal service fee of $9 per unit per year beginning in 2026. People who file applications may also be responsible for user fees.
What owners and boards should do
Keep complete records, follow current bylaws and statutory procedures, and confirm whether a particular issue falls within the tribunal’s jurisdiction. The tribunal is a legal process, so parties should use official guidance and seek legal advice when appropriate.
